Petri Writer is a minimal Markdown writing application inspired by early Finnish software aesthetics. It's the text editor I wish I had when I started this jam.

Wait, this isn't a game!

I set out to make a narrative game, as I usually do. But I got caught up thinking about how annoying writing was. Not because of the writing itself, mind you, but because I didn't have the editor I wanted. So, half-jokingly, I started looking into building my own. That eventually turned into screw it, I'll make the editor instead. 

And well, here we are.

Made with Tauri, Svelte, Tailwind, OverType, a few pots of coffee and plenty of AI code. This was my first time ever doing anything with Rust, so obviously the robot did a most of the heavy lifting.

Features

• Quickly switch between two modes:
  • Markdown Editing (MD) with overlaid effects.
  • Rendered (R) for reading your document.
  • Powered by the brilliant OverType by panphora.

• Formatting toolbar: Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Headings, Lists, Quotes, Links, Code

• Four color palettes: Classic, Mint, Aubergine, Chocolate

• Two bundled fonts: Courier Prime and VT323

• Two languages: English and Finnish

• Saves as .md or .txt

This software has NOT been thoroughly tested. It was built in four days for a game jam. There will be bugs that could cause you to lose your writing. Please:

• Save often

• Keep backups

• Don't use this for your thesis (yet)
